AMITRYN C TABLET is a combination of Amitriptyline (tricyclic anti-depressant) and Chlordiazepoxide (benzodiazepine anxiolytic). Amitriptyline works by affecting certain chemical messengers in the brain that communicate between brain cells, thereby regulating mood and treating depression. Chlordiazepoxide works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger called GABA. This helps in suppressing the excessive and abnormal activity of the nerve cells in the brain. AMITRYN C TABLET has a calming effect on various functions of the brain which helps in treating anxiety.

Direction/dosage

•  Take AMITRYN C TABLET with or without food.
•  Swallow AMITRYN C TABLET a whole with a glass of water, do not chew, or crush the tablet.
•  You are advised to take AMITRYN C TABLET only for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition.

Precautions

•  Do not take AMITRYN C TABLET if you are allergic to any of its contents, if you recently had a heart attack or heart problems, are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO).
•  Do not take opioids and AMITRYN C TABLET as it may result in increased sedation, depression, coma, and death.
•  This is a dependence forming medication. Consult your doctor.
•  If you have bipolar disorder, eye problems, urination problems, seizures, thyroid problems, kidney, or liver problems or if you are due to have any surgery consult your Physician.
•  Consult your doctor immediately if you have suicidal thoughts such as killing or harming yourself.
•  Talk to your doctor before taking AMITRYN C TABLET if you have a history of drug abuse, addiction, or alcohol abuse as it may cause dependence.
•  Do not take AMITRYN C TABLET if you are pregnant as it may cause birth defects. Consult your doctor before taking the medication if you are breastfeeding.
•  Avoid driving or operating machinery as the tablet causes sleepiness, dizziness.
•  Avoid consuming alcohol along with AMITRYN C TABLET as it could lead to increased drowsiness and dizziness.
•  AMITRYN C TABLET should not be given to children as the safety and effectiveness have not been established.

1. How to cope with the dry mouth?
Answer- Dry mouth could be a side-effect of AMITRYN C TABLET. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might stimulate saliva and prevent drying of the mouth.

2. Does Amitryn C Tablet cause weight gain?
Answer- There are reports which suggest that the use of Amitryn-C Tablet can cause weight gain. If you maintain good eating habits and exercise regularly, you might not gain any weight. An important to remember is that it is easier to prevent weight gain than losing increased weight.

3. Can I stop taking Amitryn-C Tablet when my symptoms are relieved?
Answer-No, you should continue to take Amitryn-C Tablet, even if you feel well. If you stop Amitryn-C Tablet suddenly, serious withdrawal symptoms may occur. Consult your doctor if the symptoms are relieved, he might decrease your dose gradually.

4. Are there any important warnings associated with use of Amitryn-C Tablet?
Answer- During the first few months of treatment, Amitryn-C Tablet may increase suicidal thoughts or actions in some patients. Patients having mood or behavioural disorder have a high risk of developing suicidal thoughts and actions. You should pay close attention and report your doctor of any such behaviour or mood changes. Make sure that you visit the doctor for the scheduled follow-up appointments.
