No. Tenesmus is the sensation of feeling the need to have a bowel movement even when there is no stool present. This can be caused by many different things, including muscular spasms in the rectum or colon, irritable bowel syndrome, or pelvic floor dysfunction. In some cases, tenesmus is benign and goes away after a few days. But in other cases, it may be a sign of a more serious problem such as colorectal cancer. If you experience tenesmus and it doesn't go away after a few days, see your doctor for evaluation.
