Q. How do you treat large blood clots in urine?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
If a blood clot is large and blocking the flow of urine, it needs to be removed either with surgery or a special device passed through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body).
If there is only a small amount of blood in the urine, it can be treated by drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, and going to the bathroom as often as possible. If these measures don't clear up the blood in the urine within a few days, then you should see a doctor.
