When and how does uterine cancer spread?

Uterine cancer, which is also known as endometrial cancer, is the most common type of gynecologic cancer in women. It usually begins when abnormal cells in the uterus start to grow out of control and can spread (or metastasize), either locally or distantly.

The main sign that uterine cancer has spread is an increase in tumor size. Other signs a doctor may use to identify if the disease has spread include changes in the tissue around a tumor or increased levels of certain substances in medical tests such as blood or urine.
