Having an emergency kit at home is essential for being prepared in the case of a disaster or sudden emergency. The items included in the kit should be comprehensive and tailored to your individual needs. It’s also important to make sure that whatever you include, it’s stored in a safe, easily accessible place so it can be accessed quickly and efficiently when needed.
The following items should absolutely always be included in a typical home emergency kit:
A first aid kit containing bandages, gauze pads, adhesive tape, antibacterial ointment/gel, scissors and tweezers.
Non-perishable food such as canned goods (particularly protein), shelf-stable milk boxes/pouches, energy bars and snacks that won't spoil quickly; high calorie foods like peanut butter are recommended for their long shelf life as well as their nutritional content.
Bottled water – having at least one gallon per person per day on hand is ideal; consider adding additional supplies if you have multiple family members or pets who would need access to drinking water during an emergency situation!
Forms of communication such as flashlights with extra batteries (as well as handheld radio); cell phones may require charging during prolonged incidents where power is unavailable - having both options will ensure accessibility even without power!
Emergency blankets – these help maintain body temperature by reflecting heat back into the user's body which can prevent hypothermia; these are especially important for young children and seniors who may not have sufficient body fat or muscle mass to maintain adequate warmth outdoors otherwise!
Personal protective equipment such dust masks or respirators depending on the type of hazard present - this could include smoke from wildfires, hazardous fumes from chemical explosions etc.; make sure any PPE chosen has been certified according to NIOSH standards!
7 Prescription medications – if someone in your household needs medication kept on hand due to medical reasons then store them accordingly (preferably with air tight sealable containers)
Having these essential items readied beforehand is key to helping protect yourself when facing sudden danger situations like evacuations due to natural disasters or other emergencies requiring quick action - prepare ahead and save lives later!
