Q. What is the worst type of skin cancer?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
The worst type of skin cancer is malignant melanoma. Malignant melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer in which abnormal cells begin to grow rapidly, spreading throughout the body and becoming more dangerous over time. This type of cancer is often difficult to detect early on due to its ability to spread quickly and hide within other types of skin growths or lesions.
Malignant melanoma can develop from many sources including ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sun exposure, tanning beds, family history, genetic predisposition, and even a weakened immune system. Primary treatments for malignant melanoma are surgical excision or chemotherapy; however secondary treatments such as immunotherapy may also be used if needed.
This form of skin cancer is particularly deadly because it has the potential to spread into other organs if not treated promptly at its earliest stages - meaning that when caught in the very early stages it can be 100% curable with proper treatment; but if left undetected or untreated it could prove fatal. Unfortunately, due to its aggressive nature malignant melanoma causes more deaths than any other kind of skin cancer each year - making prevention and early detection key components in combating this life-threatening disease.
