Q. What is the relation between marijuana consumption and lung cancer?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
It's no secret that smoking marijuana can have an effect on your lungs. After all, the smoke from the plant contains harmful chemicals that can damage lung tissue. However, there is little evidence to suggest that smoking marijuana increases your risk of developing lung cancer. In fact, one study found that marijuana smokers were no more likely to develop lung cancer than nonsmokers. While more research is needed to confirm these findings, it's possible that the active ingredients in marijuana may actually protect against lung cancer. So far, the evidence is inconclusive. But it's certainly possible that marijuana smokers have nothing to worry about when it comes to their risk of developing lung cancer.
