The difference between an MD in Gynecology & Obstetrics and an MS in Gynecology & Obstetrics is the focus of study. MD programs focus on the medical aspects of women’s health, while MS programs focus on the surgical aspects. Both types of programs prepare students to care for women throughout their lifetimes, from adolescence to menopause. In addition to different coursework, MD and MS students also complete different types of clinical rotations. MD students typically rotate through obstetric and gynecologic wards, while MS students rotate through surgical suites. As a result, each type of program provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue a career in women’s health.
