A life support system, such as a ventilator, is a device that assists in the breathing of a person who is unable to breathe on their own. A machine pushes air into and out of the lungs through a tube inserted into the windpipe. This helps to keep the lungs inflated and increases the amount of oxygen that reaches the blood.
