Q. What can I do to get rid of this painful big lump in my armpit?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
If you have a painful lump in your armpit, the best course of action is to consult with your physician. Depending on what is causing the lump, there are a few different treatments that could be recommended - all of which should be discussed with your doctor.
One possible cause of a lump in the armpit is an infection such as an abscess or cellulitis. If this is the case, antibiotics may be prescribed to help treat it.
Another potential cause could be lipoma - also known as fat deposits under the skin which can become painful as they grow bigger and press against nearby nerves or other tissues. In this case, surgery may need to be done to remove them. An MRI or ultrasound scan might also be needed for diagnosis and treatment planning purposes depending on the size and location of the lipoma.
In some cases where lymph nodes become enlarged due infectious causes (such as strep throat or tonsillitis) antibiotic therapy can reduce their size over time however if it persists then further evaluation by a specialist would become necessary for accurate diagnosis and management strategies. Lastly cancerous lumps will require immediate medical attention so please make sure you see your doctor immediately if this concerns you!
