Q. What are the warning signs for prostate cancer ?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
The most common warning sign of prostate cancer is an increased frequency in urination along with difficulty or discomfort during urination. Other warning signs may be a weak flow of urine or even the inability to urinate. Unexplained pain in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs can also point to prostate issues, as can pain during ejaculation and blood in the semen. However, these symptoms don’t always mean you have prostate cancer – it could be something milder like an infection.
If you are a man age 50+ (or 45-50 if African American), then it’s important to make sure you get regular screenings for prostate cancer. Your doctor will perform a digital rectal exam (DRE) which involves gently pressing on your lower abdomen and feeling around your rectum area for any lumps or irregularities that may indicate possible tumor growths that warrant further testing and diagnosis. A PSA test score will also be taken from either a blood sample or urine sample; there is evidence suggesting elevated PSA levels are linked with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer down the line too.
Last but not least, it’s important to watch out for any excessive fatigue throughout periods of physical activity as this could potentially signal something serious going on within your body such as undiagnosed cancers like those found in the prostate gland region specifically. If these symptoms persist despite adequate rest and lifestyle adjustments then definitely speak with your healthcare provider about them immediately so they can help determine what might be causing them!
