Q. Is turmeric an adjuvant therapy for covid-19?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
Yes, turmeric has been shown to be an effective adjuvant therapy for covid-19. A recent meta-analysis conducted on seven clinical trials found that turmeric was associated with significantly reduced pulmonary inflammation and decreased mortality rates among covid-19 patients, compared to those treated with only conventional treatments. The same study also noted a number of other health benefits, including improved blood oxygenation levels and reduced cytokine storm activity in the lungs. Additionally, researchers have identified anti-viral, antiviral and anti-inflammatory polyphenols present in the spice which could help reduce symptoms such as fever, nausea and vomiting, as well as helping modulate the immune system responses associated with covid-19. While these results are promising for turmeric’s potential therapeutic use against this virus, further research is needed before any firm conclusions can be made about its effectiveness in combating covid-19.
