zaxpam tablet is used to treat various disorders associated with anxiety, agitation, tension & irritability. it works by enhancing the affinity of neurotransmitters like gamma-aminobutyric acid(gaba) in the brain. zaxpam tablet is used alone or in combination with other medications. you are advised to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. you must follow caution must be followed as excess consumption leads to serious adverse effects. medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor. alcohol consumption needs to be avoided while on this medication as it may lead to severe liver damage.
it may also be used in alcoholics to treat anxiety associated with alcohol withdrawal. medication should not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may cause nausea and anxiety. treatment of anxiety should not be continued beyond 8-12 weeks, including a tapering off period. treatment of insomnia should be as short as possible. generally, the duration of treatment varies from a few days to two weeks with a maximum, including a tapering off the process of four weeks.
the most common side effect of this medication is drowsiness, stomach upset, dizziness, diarrhoea and changes in appetite. if symptoms persist or worsen, you need to consult your doctor immediately. this medication may lead to liver or kidney problems. before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intended to be pregnant, have a liver & kidney problem, and use any medicines. this medication is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
