Mozep tablet is used to treat schizophrenia (mental illness) and tourette's syndrome (neurological disorder). It works by inhibiting a chemical messenger called dopamine which regulates mood, behaviour and emotions. By inhibiting dopamine, it decreases overactivity, which helps with schizophrenia and decreases uncontrolled movements or outbursts of sounds or words (tics), which helps with tourette's syndrome.
Mozep tablet is used alone or in combination with other medications. You are advised to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor. If advised by your doctor to stop the medication, stop it gradually and not suddenly as it may lead to feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting), difficulty sleeping and sweating. Alcohol consumption needs to be avoided while on this medication as it may lead to drowsiness.
This medication's most common side effects are sweating more than usual, urinating at night, feeling dizzy and feeling sleepy. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice or suspect any of these side effects. This medication may cause changes in electric conduction of the heart; your doctor might advise you to take an ecg before and while you are on this medication.
Your doctor might also advise you to take a serum electrolytes test to monitor your electrolyte levels. Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant, have liver & kidney problems, or use any other medications.
This medication is not recommended in pregnancy third trimester or while breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
