Angiography and Coronary Angiography are medical imaging tests used to evaluate the arteries for diseases, such as coronary artery disease. During the procedure, a contrast dye is injected into a peripheral artery or, in the case of coronary angiography specifically, into one of the coronary arteries. This helps visualize and diagnose any structural abnormalities of the blood vessels or blockages due to plaque. Coronary Angiography is an invasive procedure typically done under fluoroscopic guidance with X-ray radiation exposure in combination with a cardiac catheterization laboratory. It is commonly used to confirm presence of important plaques that can cause narrowing/occlusion of vessels leading to heart attack (myocardial infarction). The results are interpreted by doctors who specialize in this field and may provide further information on diagnosis and treatment options available for individual cases suffering from cardiovascular illnesses like atherosclerosis, thrombosis etc.
