Angina is a type of chest pain that results from an insufficient supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. It typically feels like a pressing or squeezing sensation in the chest, which may also spread to other areas such as your arms, neck, jaw, stomach or back. The discomfort is often described as crushing pressure and can sometimes be mistaken for indigestion or shortness of breath. The pain usually lasts for several minutes and can be relieved with rest and/or nitroglycerin medication. In some cases there may not be any recognizable pain associated with angina, instead individuals may experience similar symptoms such as nausea and fatigue.
