Q. What causes rectal pressure and pain?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
Rectal pressure and pain can be caused by a variety of different issues, ranging from minor to serious.
The most common cause for rectal pressure is constipation or straining during bowel movements. When someone is constipated, the stool becomes dry and hard which makes it difficult to pass through the large intestine and anus. This causes increased pressure in these areas that can lead to rectal pain when trying to pass stool.
In addition, a condition known as hemorrhoids can also lead to rectal pressure and pain when they become inflamed or irritated due to straining during bowel movements or sitting for too long on the toilet. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus that may become painful if they become enlarged due to increased blood flow, mucous buildup, or other irritations. Often times this swelling leads to discomfort that worsens after using the bathroom and engaging in anal sex activities such as anal fingering or penetrate with toys/penis etc.
Other potential causes of rectal pressure and pain include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), certain food allergies/sensitivities such as gluten intolerance, infection from bacteria like salmonella or E coli leaky gut syndrome—caused by damage done over time due ingested toxins either through diet or environmental exposures—abdominal adhesions; tissue buildup between organs resulting in scarring; anorectal fistula formation; abdominal hernias; pelvic organ prolapse (dropping down of one’s uterus for instance); endometriosis (in women); ovarian cysts; ovarian cancer; prostate cancer in men; prostatitis – inflammation of prostate gland leading to muscle spasms causing discomfort at perianal area etc. . Depending on where your symptoms are located you may need additional tests and investigations such as MRI scan/ ultrasound/colonoscopy depending what kind of doctor you visit even if there is no red flag associated with your complaints i-e your doctor doesn’t suspect any serious underlying medical illness related with your complaint still he will check out whatever he feels necessary so if you suspect something wrong don’t wait long time just immediately take appointment & get it checked out right away because early detection & proper treatment are key factors here!
