Chemical peels are a type of aesthetic treatment that helps to improve the look and feel of skin. They involve the application of a chemical solution to the face, which causes mild exfoliation, removing the outermost layers of dead skin cells while simultaneously stimulating new skin cell growth. There are many different types of chemical peels available, each with their own unique set of benefits.
The most common types of chemical peelings include:
Superficial/Light Peels – These are milder treatments that help treat fine lines and wrinkles, scars, hyperpigmentation and acne. Common ingredients used for this kind of peel are alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) such as glycolic acid or lactic acid; beta hydroxy acids (BHA) like salicylic acid; trichloroacetic acid (TCA); retinol-based products like Retin-A; or Jessner’s solution. Results from superificial/light peels may only be visible after multiple sessions over a period several weeks or months depending on your individual situation.
Medium Depth Peels – This type is slightly deeper than superficial peeling agents but can still produce dramatic results with fewer applications needed than light peeling agents do because they penetrate more deeply into the dermis layer where collagen is produced thereby sloughing off more advanced sun damage etc… Some common medium depth peel chemicals including TCA in higher concentrations usually between 15 - 35%;Jessner's Peel; Glycolic Acid Peel in concentrations between 30–70%; Salicylic Acid Peel up to 30%.
Deep Peels / Phenol Peels – The strongest form deep Chemical Peel using phenol as an active ingredient which has a longer lasting effect compared with other lighter versions but its strong enough so it should only be administered by trained professionals who know how to monitor patient safety carefully during procedure . It works by penetrating deeper into dermal tissue causing intense exfoliation and collagen stimulation at same time creating smoother clearer looking complexion post treatment . Its best used for treating deep wrinkles scars discolorations pigmentations age spots pre cancerous lesions sagging jaw line etc… Its downtime could last several days post treatment .
