Q. What are some everyday things we do/practice that you never knew there were names for?

Did you know there's an official name for the moment when your sock bunches up inside your shoe and makes a huge lump? It's called "toe jam". Or have you ever felt frustrated when someone takes forever to reply to a text message, so you send them another one after about 30 minutes? That is known as "double texting"!
There are also fun terms for everyday things we do. Have you ever noticed how sometimes, two people talk together at the same time? That's called "linguistic convergence". There's even a term for when somebody corrects something they said just one second ago - it's called a "gloss". And if somebody says something in such a way that everyone else immediately understands what they mean, then that person has displayed their amazing powers of "jargonauts" – or exemplary use of jargon.
We can also get creative with names! How about those long tables with chairs attached around them that many classrooms feature? Those are officially labelled “radial desks”. If someone sharply turns and leaves after losing an argument, then they're known as having pulled off an “about-face exit”. We all know the feeling of being so content that everything seems perfect – in Spanish culture, this wonderful sensation is referred to as “duende”.
The lexicon keeps growing day after day– who knows what interesting nomenclatures we'll discover next!
