The presence of a mild disc bulge at the L4L5S1 level can be treatable and, in some cases, curable. Depending on the severity and nature of your individual situation, you may benefit from various treatment modalities including physical therapy, activity modification or bracing, medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), trigger point injections (TPIs), epidural steroid injections (ESIs), chiropractic care and/or acupuncture. In more severe cases or if symptoms persist despite conservative treatments, surgery may be recommended to alleviate pressure on nerve roots that are being compressed by the herniated discs.
Surgery is generally successful in relieving a good number of herniated disc symptoms when performed by an experienced spine surgeon. Outcomes will depend on how well your specific anatomy responds to the surgery and other factors related to recovery such as lifestyle changes; however modern surgical techniques used today typically have success rates between 70% - 90%.
It's important to note that no two conditions are completely alike so it's best to speak with your doctor about what treatment options would work best for you personally based on the specifics of your case.
