Q. How are tumours formed? Why do the cells that form the tumour grow uncontrollably?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
Tumours, also known as neoplasms, are formed when cellular growth in a particular area of the body begins to proliferate uncontrollably. This process is caused by a variety of factors that differ depending on the type of tumour. The most common types of tumours are benign or malignant.
Benign tumours form when normal cells rapidly divide due to uncontrolled growth and expansion. This rapid cell division often occurs because somebody has an inherited genetic mutation that causes their cells to be unable to go through regular programmed cell death (apoptosis). In some cases, benign tumours may also be caused by physical trauma or a sustained infection in the affected area. The main characteristic of these tumors is that they do not spread beyond the site where they are initially formed and can usually be removed surgically without too much risk for becoming life-threatening if detected early enough.
Malignant tumours, on the other hand, form when mutated cancerous cells grow abnormally and reproduce unchecked throughout various parts of one's body leading to metastasis (spreading). These cancers can start from any organ or tissue within our bodies but typically begin with tumorigenesis – which is essentially an event where faulty genetic mutations cause certain normal tissue cells to turn into cancerous ones capable of causing tumors elsewhere in your body other than its place of origin . These tumorigenic events may occur due to several reasons such as aging, exposure to carcinogenic substances like tobacco smoke or excessive sunlight radiation, ionizing radiation from medical treatments etc.. Furthermore; malignant tumors regardless their original tissue origin have an increased capacity for invasion and even potential access across natural barriers such as cell membranes and blood vessels; leading them further away from their origins’ sites – further contributing towards extensive spreads making them highly dangerous & life threatening over time if left untreated early enough; hence demanding immediate attention & effective treatment plans afterwards .
In conclusion we can say that no matter what kind it is; whether it’s Malignant (Cancer)or Benign (Non-Cancer) -Tumors all develop due to unregulated growth processes within our bodies which happen either due primarily biological/genetic causes along with spontaneous accidents , inheritable syndromes , sustained infections , physical traumas or secondary exposures affecting us leading possibly amongst many others towards development stages & formations thereof!
