If you’re suffering from excruciating throat pain, the first step is to determine the cause. Throat pain can be caused by a variety of conditions including viral or bacterial infections such as strep throat and tonsillitis, gastroesophageal reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), post-nasal drip, smoking, certain medications and mutations in your genes that predispose you to chronic sore throats. Once the underlying cause has been established it’s important to seek medical advice for a detailed plan for treatment but there are also some home remedies that may help in easing your painful throat.

Gargling: Gargling with warm salt water helps reduce swelling and inflammation and kills any germs that might be lingering around in your throat. Mix 1 teaspoon of salt into 8 ounces of warm water (not hot). Then gargle with this mixture several times a day while tilting your head back slightly so that it reaches the back of your throat.

Hydration: Staying well hydrated is really important when dealing with any kind of sore throat because it helps keep mucous thin which allows bacteria to drain freely out of the nose or mouth more easily as opposed to thicker mucous which gets caught up in pockets within our throats making them congested causing further discomfort/pain. So make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day - not just plain water but herbal teas too!

3 . Honey: Honey acts as an anti inflammatory since it contains enzymes like diastase which breaks down proteins into simpler molecules allowing them to penetrate our body at a much deeper level than before — soothing inflamed areas quickly! Aside from its benefits for sore throats honey can also boost immunity due to its high content levels Vitamin C & antioxidants present naturally within it making honey one powerful remedy all rounder!  To use, add 2 teaspoons full directly onto tongue then swallow giving allow relief almost instantly provided there's no underlying infection present :)
