Alkaston tablet is a combination medicine that includes potassium citrate and magnesium citrate, used to treat kidney stones, hypocitraturia, gout, metabolic problems (acidosis), nutritional deficiencies, muscle functioning, and cardiovascular disease problems and is used as a saline laxative.
This combination medicine will help in alkalizing the urine and making it less acidic. Which in turn helps the kidney to excrete uric acid, thus preventing the formation of kidney stones and gout. The magnesium citrate is a mineral supplement, which, when taken orally, gets metabolized to citrate and is absorbed by increasing the alkaline load.
Alkaston tablet is used alone or in combination with other medications. You are advised to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Caution must be followed as excess consumption leads to serious adverse effects. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication.
The most common side effects of the medication are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and gastrointestinal upset. Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant, have liver & kidney problems, and use any other medications.
