Siphene is used to treat female infertility. It is used in women who can’t conceive due to polycystic ovary syndrome and problems in ovulation. Siphene can be taken with or without food but at the same time every day to get the most benefit. Long term usage should be avoided. It is usually advised to take it for a period of 3 menstrual cycles.
Common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, bloating, headache, and hot flushes. These side effects are usually minor and not severe but inform the doctor if they do not subside. Serious side effects like ovary overstimulation (pelvic pain, stomach pain, trouble breathing and weight gain) and blurring of vision. Consult the doctor immediately in case of severe side effects. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Before using the medication, tell your doctor if you ever had an early menopause, ovarian fibroids, or swollen ovary, abnormal vaginal bleeding of unknown cause, ovarian cysts not due to polycystic ovary disease, mental depression, thrombophlebitis (inflammation of a blood vessel due to a clot), hormone-dependent tumours & pituitary tumours and liver disease or a history of liver problems.
If ovulation did not occur after the first course of therapy, your doctor might advise you to increase your dose of siphene in subsequent treatment cycles.
