What is the difference between atopic dermatitis and eczema?

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a type of eczema that is caused by an overactive immune system. Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy, and inflamed. AD affects about 10-20% of children in the U.S., and it often persists into adulthood.

There are many different types of eczema, but the most common type is atopic dermatitis. Other types of eczema include contact dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and asteatotic eczema.
