Q. What do I have if I get chest pain after running and other forms of exercise?
Doctor Answer is medically reviewed by SecondMedic medical review team.
It's likely you're experiencing angina. Angina is chest pain or discomfort that occurs when there's not enough blood flow to the heart muscle. Angina is most often a symptom of coronary artery disease (CAD), a condition in which plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries.
Angina can also be caused by other conditions that reduce blood flow to the heart, such as anemia, heart failure, and arrhythmias. Chest pain after running or other forms of exercise is usually treated with lifestyle changes and medications. If lifestyle changes and medications don't relieve your chest pain, you may need surgery.
