One of the most interesting psychiatric issues I have come across is anterograde amnesia. Anterograde amnesia, also known as source amnesia or "forgetting to remember," is a type of memory disorder in which new information and memories are unable to be stored properly in the long-term memory. This can occur due to damage to certain parts of the brain such as the hippocampus, but there are many other possible causes including drug abuse, excessive alcohol intake, and mental illness. Those with this condition often struggle with tasks that require short-term recollection because they cannot retain any new information acquired shortly after. It's important for those suffering from anterograde amnesia to keep detailed records through journaling or voice dictation so they can look back on events at a later time when their memory fails them.
