Skin cancer can be painful in some cases, but not always. It really depends on the type of skin cancer and how advanced it is. In the early stages, skin cancer might not cause any pain at all. However, as it progresses and spreads, it can become more uncomfortable.

For example, basal cell carcinoma, which is the most common type of skin cancer, often doesn't cause pain in the beginning. It may just appear as a new growth or a sore that doesn't heal. Squamous cell carcinoma, another common type, can sometimes cause itching or tenderness, but it's not usually described as very painful.

Melanoma, which is the most serious type of skin cancer, can sometimes be painful. If it grows deep into the skin or spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause discomfort or even severe pain.

Regardless of whether skin cancer is painful or not, it's important to get any unusual spots or changes on your skin checked out by a doctor. Early detection and treatment can make a big difference in the outcome.
