No, penile cancer is not common. In fact, penile cancer is a rare form of the disease that accounts for less than 1% of all cancers in men worldwide.

The most common type of penile cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, which begins in the flat cells that line the surface and inside of the penis. This type of cancer rarely spreads beyond the penis if it's caught and treated early enough, with a 5-year survival rate near 90%. Other types such as adenocarcinoma are much less common.

Risk factors for developing penile cancer include age (more prevalent after age 50), HIV infection or AIDS, exposure to human papillomavirus (HPV), smoking tobacco, poor hygiene or lack of circumcision, prolonged irritation caused by phimosis or paraphimosis (chronic tightness/constriction around the foreskin area). All men should practice good personal hygiene and be aware of any changes to their skin on their penis which could signal an early warning sign for this rare but serious form of cancer.

It's important to note that studies have found no direct link between erections/masturbation and increasing your risk for this kind of tumor - although excessive masturbation may cause physical injury leading to chronic friction-related lesions that can potentially lead to malignant transformation over time if left untreated. Always consult your doctor if you notice any long lasting injuries or changes in appearance around your genitalia – it's always better safe than sorry!
