If there is a lot of blood and it's difficult to speak or swallow, then it's an emergency. Other signs that indicate a medical emergency include: pain that doesn't improve, fever, chills, or increasing redness or swelling in the throat.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms after a tonsillectomy, please go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Bleeding can be dangerous if not treated properly, so don't wait to see if it will stop on its own.
