Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of chronic renal failure in the United States. It's a progressive type of kidney disease that occurs in people with diabetes.
Diabetic nephropathy occurs when diabetic patients have high blood sugar levels for a long period of time. This damage to the kidneys can cause protein to leak into the urine, Albuminuria, and then finally Chronic Renal Failure.
