An abnormal ECG is simply an ECG that does not meet the normal criteria. There are many different abnormalities that can occur, and they can be quite varied in their presentation. Nearly any change from the "norm" can be considered abnormal.
Some of the more common abnormalities include changes in heart rate or rhythm, evidence of heart attack or damage, and abnormal conduction pathways. Any one of these could indicate a serious problem and would require further evaluation by a healthcare professional.
