the quadrimeningo is used to prevent meningococcal disease. the most common types of meningococcal disease are meningitis and septicaemia.
quadrimeningo protects you from 4 types of bacteria, a, c, w and y, that cause meningococcal disease. this disease is spread by tiny droplets from the nose, mouth or throat.
generally, infants from 6 weeks to less than the age of 6 months will receive 2 doses, 1st dose will be given in between the 2nd to 4th month, and a booster dose will be given at 12 months of age.
infants from 6 months to less than 12 months of age will receive 1st dose of vaccine at the 6th month, and a booster dose will be given at the 12th month of age. children from 1 year of age to adults will receive only one dose but if you remain at risk need to go for a booster dose. this injection is given by your doctor or nurse, and it should not be self-administered.
the most common side effects of quadrimeningo injection are pain at the injection site, sleepiness, headache, nausea and irritation. this vaccine is safe if prescribed by your doctor during pregnancy and breastfeeding. for people who are going to other countries, your doctor may advise you to get vaccinated.
