Heptavir tablet is an antiretroviral agent. It works by inhibiting the multiplication of viruses in the body. Thus, it stops the growth of the new virus.
This medication is given in combination with other hiv drugs. The dose and frequency depend on your medical condition. Take this medication in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication regularly at a fixed time as it may increase efficacy and decrease the chance of hiv becoming resistant to this medication. Do not stop the medication unless told by your doctor.
Common side effects are headache, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, fatigue, stomach pain, and rash. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Skin reaction or liver damage may be seen rarely in few people. Advise regular monitoring of blood tests and liver function tests during the treatment.
Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant (or) breastfeeding and have kidney disease or liver disease. Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of liver damage. Use contraceptive methods if you have hiv positive. Do not share needles, blood, body fluids or razors, and toothbrushes.
