BETADINE ointment is an antiseptic and disinfectant. it works by killing bacteria, viruses, fungi & spores that cause infection by disturbing their proteins, fatty acids and genetic material.
the ointment is used to treat skin infections, skin ulcers, wounds, cuts, burns, skin abrasions and post-operative wounds. do not use this longer than seven days without your physician advice. keep the affected areas clean for maximum therapeutic benefit.
ointment's most common side effects are skin irritation, swelling, redness, burning, crusting, pain, and warmth. if applied at deep puncture wounds, you may experience metabolic acidosis, high blood sodium and kidney problems. inform your doctor immediately if you experience the above side effects.
if you are allergic to BETADINE, you may experience allergic signs like rashes, swelling of lips, face swelling, breathlessness, dizziness and nausea. consult your doctor immediately if you have an allergy to povidone-iodine ointment.
