Apigat tablet is in a class of medications called factor xa inhibitors that works by inhibiting factor xa that prevents the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, which prevents cross-linked blood clots of fibrin formation. It dissolves the clots and also relieves pain and inflammation by increasing the blood flow. This tablet improves the overall healing process. It also reduces the risk of clots in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries. You are advised to continue this medication for years, even for life, in some cases.

This medication's most common side effect is bleeding (more than the normal), for example, having nosebleeds or bruising. Few other side effects are low blood pressure, nausea and skin. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any symptoms. Don't quit the medication or neither changes the dose without consultation from your doctor, as it may increase the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis (formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel) to reduce the risk of having a blood clot adopt specific lifestyle changes such as the prohibition of smoking, eating a healthy diet, regular exercise, and losing weight if you are obese.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any severe liver or kidney problems or currently bleeding. Also, tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications to reduce blood clotting. Breastfeeding should be avoided while taking this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to this medication. Unlike other anticoagulants, a regular blood test (pt-inr) is not required while taking this medicine. Along with the treatment program, the doctor might recommend applying heat to the painful area, elevating the affected leg, using an over-the-counter painkiller, and possibly wearing compression stockings.
