AMANTREL tablet is a dopamine agonist used to treat parkinson’s disease and also used to treat the movement of side effects caused by certain drugs (drug-induced movement disorder). it works by increasing the amount of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain which regulates body movements.
this medication dose and duration will be given based on your medical condition as prescribed by the doctor. take this tablet orally with or with food, but try to have it at a fixed time regularly. medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor. do not skip any doses and finish the entire course of treatment even if you feel better. stopping this medication too early may cause serious side effects. do not take this medication longer than recommended by the doctor.
the medication’s most common side effects are nausea, dryness in the mouth, constipation, blurred vision, insomnia, hallucinations, peripheral oedema, and balance disorder. if the symptoms persist or worsen, you need to consult your doctor immediately. this medication may put you at a higher risk of having seizures, so it is better to talk to your doctor if you have any history of seizures.
avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. you must follow caution as excess consumption leads to serious adverse effects. this medication may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy so, do not drive if these symptoms occur.
before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have liver & kidney problems, and using any other medication. amantadine hydrochloride tablet is unsafe in both pregnancy and breastfeeding.
