Hansepran capsule is used to treat a form of leprosy, also known as hansen's disease, called lepromatous leprosy, including dapsone-resistant lepromatous leprosy and lepromatous leprosy complicated by erythema nodosum leprosum. It works by inhibiting mycobacterial growth and binds preferentially to mycobacterial dna, and it also exerts anti-inflammatory properties in treating erythema nodosum leprosum reactions.
Hansepran capsule is used alone or in combination with other medications. Take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. This medication has to be taken for several weeks or months to observe the benefits. Do not stop the medication unless told by your doctor. Alcohol consumption needs to be avoided while on this medication as it may lead to severe liver damage. It is essential to continue hansepran for the entire time of treatment, even if you begin to feel better after few months.
This medication's most common side effects are discolouration of the eyelid, tear discolouration, itching, discoloured sweat, skin rash, decreased appetite, sputum discolouration. If the symptoms persist or worsen, you need to consult the doctor immediately. Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intended to be pregnant, have liver and kidney problems, and use any other medicines. This medication is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
