Zonisep capsule is an anticonvulsant or anti-epileptic drug. It works by blocking the sodium & calcium in the brain and decreasing the abnormal or excessive activity of never cells in the brain. Hence it prevents seizures.
Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. The dose and duration depend on your medical condition and how well you are responding to your medicine. If you miss a dose, it may trigger seizures. It may take several weeks to months to feel or to see the benefits of it. Do not change the brand of medication without doctor consultation. Medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor.
Common side effects are dizziness, loss of appetite, memory impairment, drowsiness, impaired concentration, altered walking, impaired coordination, and anger. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Inform your doctor if you notice any changes in mood or behaviour as it may lead to depression or suicidal thoughts.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, (or) have kidney & liver disease, and have depression or suicidal thoughts. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication because it may increase the risk of seizures and worsen your side effects. Do not drive or operate any machinery if any symptoms affect your ability to drive. Advise the patient to go for regular monitoring kidney function tests.
