Lafaxid is a gastro-intestinal agent used to treat and prevent stomach ulcers, acid reflux disease, heartburn, indigestion and other symptoms caused by excessive gastric acid.
Lafaxid is commonly prescribed to treat and prevent stomach ulcers or heartburn caused by pain killers. Tablet is swallowed as a whole with a glass of water before food or 2 hours after food. This medicine needs to be taken as directed by your physician. It takes few hours to get you to benefit. If symptoms persist or worsen even after 14 days of treatment, you need to consult your doctor immediately. This medicine is recommended for severe stomach disease. It is advised to consume smaller meals & more often and avoid spicy foods.
Most side effects include fatigue, drowsiness, headache, increased liver enzymes, constipation, increased uric acid levels in blood, diarrhoea, muscle pain, and protein in the urine. If you get any of these effects, inform your doctor. These effects usually go away as you stop the medication. Consult your doctor if it is bothering you or worsen.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease before taking this medicine. Also, inform if you are on any other medications. It is considered to be safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding if prescribed by your doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption while on this medication.
