Valance is anti-convulsant. It works by blocking sodium & calcium in the brain; thus, it decreases the abnormal or excessive activity of nerve cells in the brain. Hence it prevents seizures.
This medication is used in combination with other drugs. It takes several weeks to get benefits from it. The dose and frequency depend on your medical condition. If you miss a dose, it may trigger your seizures. Do not stop the medication unless told by your doctor.
Common side effects are headache, dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, abdominal pain, infection, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, hair loss, weight gain, diarrhoea, tremor, and flu-like symptoms. Consult your doctor if you experience any skin rash or redness. If this medication is used for a prolonged period, it may cause osteoporosis and increases the risk of breaking a bone. Inform your doctor if you notice any changes in the mood or behaviour as it may lead to suicidal thoughts.
Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart problems, difficulty urinating, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication because it increases the risk of seizures. Advise the patient for regular blood tests while taking this medication.
