manitol injection is used in the treatment of acute renal failure, cerebral oedema and glaucoma. it is used to increase urine production in case of kidney failure. it also helps to reduce excess fluid in brain stroke by decreasing overall water content in the brain. it works, reducing the pressure inside the eye or swelling around the brain. usually, manitol is given as an injection into the veins.
manitol is administered in a daycare or hospital admission by your doctor or nurse. this manitol injection may be used alone or in combination with other medications. inform your doctor immediately and discontinue manitol injection if you experience any unusual cramps, tingling sensation, burning, or numbness of your hands and feet. manitol injection may not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity reaction to the drug.
the most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, dehydration and injection site reactions. serious adverse effects include erythema, pruritus, anaphylactic and hypersensitivity reactions. if any of the above symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor immediately, they suggest alternatives to reduce the symptoms.
before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant, have liver & kidney problems, and use any other medications.
