Jakavi tablet is used to treat chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera. It works by blocking the action of an abdominal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps to stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.
Take this tablet orally with or without food but try to have it simultaneously every day. Jakavi tablet dose and duration will be based on your medical condition as prescribed by the doctor. Medication must not be stopped unless told by your doctor.
If you stop taking this treatment too early, your symptoms may come back, and your condition may worsen. Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking while having this treatment, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
This medication may reduce the number of blood cells in your blood, increasing the susceptibility to infections. The most common side effects are headache, dizziness, low platelet count. If the symptoms persist or worsen, you need to consult your doctor immediately. Your doctor may advise certain tests before and after the treatment to check for these issues.
Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant, have liver & kidney problems, and use any other medication. Jakavi tablet is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
