degapride is used to treat prostate cancer. it works by decreasing the testosterone in the body and prevents the growth of cancer cells. degapride is administered under the skin by a medical practitioner. it has to be administered at the area where there is no exposure of pressure, preferably away from the ribs and waistline or belt. the injection site should not be rubbed or massaged as this might disperse the depot resulting in an altered release of medicine. degapride has to be administered every 28 days as directed by the physician.
inform your doctor if you have long qt syndrome (irregular heartbeat, fainting), high or low levels of calcium, potassium, magnesium or sodium in your blood. inform your doctor if you have any severe kidney, liver and heart problems because it may affect the treatment. there is no dosage adjustment needed in mild to moderate kidney and liver problems. before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant or have liver & kidney problems. this medication is not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
you may feel some common side effects while receiving this degapride. pain, redness, swelling, hardness or itching in the place where the medication was injected, hot flashes, increased sweating, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, weight gain or loss, weakness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, inform your doctor immediately if you feel severe rash all over the body (hives), difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, fainting these may need medical attention
