Agoprex tablet belongs to the class of medication called antidepressants. It is also known as a melatonin agonist. It acts as an agonist at melatonin receptors (mt1 and mt2) and as an antagonist at serotonin (5-ht)(2c) receptors. It helps in resynchronizing the sleep-wake cycle that is disturbed in depression. Agoprex tablet helps maintain the balance of certain chemicals in the brain, which helps regulate the body clock (circadian rhythm-natural cycle of physical, mental, and behaviour changes that the body goes through in a 24-hour cycle) with positive benefits on mood and sleep in patients suffering from depression. This tablet improves your mood, relieves anxiety, tension, prevents extreme mood changes, and helps you feel less agitated. This medicine usually takes several weeks to show its action, and you may still feel low during this time. Continue the medication for approximately 6months or as long as it is prescribed. Take regularly for its effective action.
This medication's most common side effects are headache, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), and back pain. Other side effects that may also be observed are stomach pain, changes in body weight, diarrhoea, and increased liver enzymes. These are usually temporary and usually resolved on their own. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects may bother you or if it does not subside. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. Complete the entire course of treatment even if you feel better if you observe unusual darkening or any changes in the colour of your urine, light-coloured stools, yellowing of skin or eyes, pain in the upper right part of your stomach, and unusual fatigue as this could be signs of liver problems. It is crucial to inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behaviour, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your liver or are suffering from diabetes. Also, tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications for the diseases as they may cause interactions. You need to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to be pregnant or breastfeeding. It usually affects your ability to drive. The tablet may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do any activity that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you have had any previous history of allergy to this medication. Liver function and levels of blood components are monitored by your doctor regularly if you are taking this medicine for long-term treatment.
