Vein stripping is a surgical procedure to remove certain veins from your body. While this may seem like it could cure deep vein thrombosis (DVT), it cannot. DVT is caused by clots in the veins that are formed when blood does not flow properly.

Although vein stripping can help treat some of the symptoms of DVT, such as pain or swelling, it will not necessarily reduce or eliminate the risk of future clotting problems. If a patient has an underlying medical condition that predisposes them to clotting issues, such as varicose veins, his/her doctor may suggest surgery as an option for treatments along with medications and lifestyle changes.

In some cases, doctors may recommend removing large veins if they are causing significant discomfort in patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency or other conditions related to poor blood flow through the legs and feet. In these cases, removal of those problematic vessels might improve circulation and alleviate associated symptoms such as leg pain and swelling. However, these surgeries are usually aimed at relieving painful symptoms rather than curing DVT itself since vein stripping will not guarantee prevention from future clot formation in affected areas throughout the body or even provide complete relief of current symptoms due to residual effects on nearby surrounding vessels which might increase their activity during healing process making them more prone to develop clots in their walls post-surgery depending on individual’s particular condition and genetic predisposition for forming clots across his/her entire vascular network..
