It is possible to be completely cured of deep vein thrombosis or DVT. Treatment typically involves taking blood-thinning medications, such as warfarin (Coumadin) or heparin, for at least six months. Some people may need to take these medications for the rest of their lives.

However, it is possible for blood clots to form again after treatment is stopped. If you have had a blood clot, your doctor may prescribe blood-thinning medications to help prevent them from happening again.
