There are a number of reasons why ovaries may hurt, including ovulation, cysts, and endometriosis. Ovulation pain is usually felt on one side and is caused by the follicle rupturing and releasing the egg. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form on or inside the ovary and are often benign. Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. This tissue can cause pain and inflammation in the pelvic area. If you are experiencing pain in your ovaries, it is best to see your doctor to determine the cause.
