October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an international health campaign that occurs each year to increase awareness of the disease and to encourage early detection. The campaign began in 1985 as a way to promote education about breast cancer and its symptoms. Additionally, during this month many non-profit organizations offer free mammograms screenings in order to ensure early detection of breast cancer which can greatly enhance outcomes from surviving it later on.
