Backache in teenagers can have multiple causes, with the most common being poor posture and physical activity habits that strain the back muscles. A lack of exercise or an imbalance between muscle strengths and weaknesses can also lead to tightness and pain in the lower back. Other potential causes include stress, hormonal changes associated with puberty, nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin D deficiency, improper sleeping posture, infections such as epidural abscesses or viral illnesses like shingles, overuse/repetitive strain injuries from activities for school or sports teams, degenerative disc disease or herniated discs due to increased bone density during adolescence, slipped vertebrae caused by weak abdominal muscles that don’t support proper spinal alignment when standing upright. It's important to see a doctor if you experience sudden onset of acute pain without a known cause as it may be indicative of other medical conditions like kidney stones which require immediate medical attention.
